news what's going on and class schedules: updated 06~29~08 Welcome July!! I am looking forward and away from an unusually icky June!!! I am going on Vacation for the first time in I don't know when to Quebec. The shop will be closed for the 4th of July weekend. Friday July 4th to Monday July 8th. Kim will be here on the other days, so stop in and say Hello to her!!! I am looking forward to our August event which will be a Traveling Scarf. We will be using 2 skeins of Toe Jamz yarn and starting out by making our own Journal to travel with our scarf to each knitter. Whoever is knitting on the scarf can add their own, feelings, sayings or thoughts and when all is done it goes back to the owner. We will all be using the same pattern and you knit for about 10" and then we pass it on to the next knitter. It is featured in the book, Knit Alongs. I will have more info later. Knitting Olympics starts August 8th!!!! Plan ahead!!! I am working on the website for the Sheep in the City, it is a slow process but it will be great when it goes!!! I will be closed Sunday Memorial day weekend and of course my usual Monday. Get Ready for "Sheep In the City" 2009 Get Away Weekend!!!! Right here in Milwaukee, well Oak Creek to be exact!! February 27, 28 and March 1st. Comfort Suites Inn Convention Center - 6362 S. 13th St. 414-570-1111 This will be a weekend of All Fiber Events!! There will be classes and Make and Takes and Demos. Vendors of all sorts to soothe us after the Holidays and Cabin Fever we suffer here in the North!!! There will be a fashion show with any type of Fiber related articles, so get working on that Ahhhhh some project to strut down the runway!! How about a sheep to Scarf contest? This is open to all Fiber People. Meditation Chair~you can knit on a prayer shawl and write a note in the book that will go with the shawl. The Vendors will surround us with their wares as we sit in the Spitting Circle (short for Spinning and Knitting) Remember Cake walks, well we're having one but with Yarn cakes!!! Doorprizes too. Bring yourself or the family, or hang out with the friends for three days or one!!! There is a shuttle service that will shuttle us to the shop and area sites, oh and the Airport too!!! Now for the Hotel amenities~ Two pools and a whirlpool, & fountains, a fitness room, complimentary Continental Breakfast with hot entrees. Rooms have microwaves, refridgerators and coffee makers, some have whirlpools and there are poolside rooms that are really cool. There will be more information when I get the registration all figured out. But you can reserve your room now under Sheep in the City. We are working fast and furious to get this all together so you can plan your weekend. Classes will be kept to a small limit of 6 maximum so sign up early. Make and takes will all be under $10.00 with everything provided. Hope you will enjoy it as much as we are enjoying putting it together!!!! So plan ahead to join your fiber friends in a relaxing learning and sharing weekend.. Breakfast Club~ Wed. morning from 10-noonish Open knitting/crochet for anyone that wants to work on a project. Fun, group of knitters, that have breakfast to boot. Come on in and bring a project, snacks are good too....coffee is hot!! But Cool Conversations!!! A great group!! Karaoke Knitting~Fridays, 10-1 ish~ No good singers please, we more or less howl, singing and with laughter!!! Don't be meek, we just all sing along to the old campfire songs, that we grew up on. oh and bring your projects!! Sunday Brunch~ 10-4:00 then out the door!!! This is open knitting for anyone that wants to sit and Kabitz and knit the hours away!!! Sometimes we have programs. Please feel free to come in and hang out!!! to knit that is!!! Thank you so much!!! July Newsletter Blog click here! IWe have a new Spinning Group meeting the first Thursday of the month at 7:00pm-9pm and I will hold it here till it gets too big. We will work on challenges, and there will annual dues of $25.00. It will be called "Village Spinners". This will be a great venue for working people because unlike other Guilds it will be held in the Evening. There will be programs and lots of fun learning and teaching. For those of you interested in daytime Spinning there is Spindle and Dyepot Guild, which meets once a month at the New Berlin Library, the third Friday of the month. I was really impressed the guy did a great job, and I had two pots of coffee and some chocolate but I think I was more comatose than hyper!! I will probably never erase this!! hahahaha Charity Knitting Hats!! I delivered the Charity hats and scarves to the Salvation Army after I met with some snags on donating? The Salvation Army will hand them out at their Christmas party to children. Thank you SA!!! So you want a Flock of Sheep??? the flock is on Vacation and will return in Fall, so hold on to your cards. Ewe are almost to the class list keep scrolling!! WWKIP day June 14th 2008 We had over 30 knitters and the needles were flying!!! So were the Cottonwood trees, it looked like snow!! It was a good time and lots of door prizes. The weather held out and as soon as I can upload some photos you will see all the celebrities. July Classes are all full August August 5th, Tuesday-Trilogy of Toes 6;30-8;30pm $25.00 Learn to make three different cast ons and toes for toe up socks!!! Figure 8 cast on, Square patch cast on and flap cast on. August 19th, Tuesday- A Heeling Experience- 6:30-8:30pm $25.00 Learn 3 or more different heels to make, this is just a heel class not the whole sock!! Sock knitting probably helpful. August 6th & 13th Childrens Beginning Knitting 1:00-2:30pm $30.00 If your child can sit with pointy sticks and not poke someone, they are welcome to come and learn to knit. Zablocki VA Hospital Woods, Wisconsin This program is put on to Honor our Nations Veterans, and bring some Holiday Cheer to those who are hospitalized or reside on the VA grounds during the upcoming Holiday Season. This year our Veterans will be much younger than we have had in the past, there will be many Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom Veterans among the hospitalized who will be at the show.
